Samsung new Flagship device Challenge

All over the world, launches of new smartphones have become events, with producers trying to showcase their innovative abilities and impressing the media and the audience with their standout launches. Naturally, also Samsung wanted to present their new Galaxy Note8 in an event in Tehran.

In the clutter of global and local launch events, Samsung needed to stand out and use the event to underline its ambition to be the leader in innovation, by creating an event that would impress the attendees and at the same time make the outstanding new product tangible, experiential, and desirable, and communicate the Note8 ambition and slogan: Do Bigger Things.

Four MInd’s Insight

When thinking about a launch event, we must understand that largest part of the target audience we want to impress are not the few hundred guests of the event – it’s the people who will afterwards hear about the event and the new device from the attending journalists and resellers. Those who see the photos, the videos, read the articles and blog posts, and ask for advice in a mobile store.

To get these end consumers excited about a new product, the event attendees must be genuinely excited themselves. The best way to achieve this would be to make the launch event highly experiential: Rather than talking about the device’s features, let people play around with them, showcase them, and hence create memory anchors and impressive moments that deserve to be photographed, videotaped, and written about. In the human experience, touching and feeling still beats“talking about”.

Four Mind Creative Solution

For the launch event, we planned a variety of sections and activities. We designed a moving screen that narrated the development journey of the Samsung Note series, displaying the history of innovation from the first series all the way to the new Note 8.

An experience zone was designed with separate sections showcasing each special feature of the device: In each of these sections, the visitors could feel and touch its features: Rather than telling the device is waterproof, we placed it in a water tank and allowed visitors to use its touchscreen underwater. Rather than [[more example]].

Guests were invited to participate in Photography and Sketching competitions to show how the device meets the needs of professional users. A celebrity cartoonist (Bozorgmehr Hosseinpour) was drawing an artwork live during the CEO’s launch speech.

Results

The event became a most memorable of Samsung’s experiences in Iran, both for the users, the fans and also for the Brand. It resulted in significant media coverage, especially among tech and online media before and during the device’s launch into Iran’s market. (we need more results. Don’t have much details, reports etc.)
